FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
TEXTBOOK & MATERIAL FAQs
Does the bookstore carry everything I need for class?
Books
Yes! We have all required and optional reading material recommended by the instructors available in our campus store.
Other Course Materials
Sometimes you will be given a list of other materials needed for your class from your instructor. These may or may not be available in our campus store - please check with us first.
What are my textbook options?
All of the textbooks/reading materials are available as either new, used or a digital format.
What is the difference between "textbook" vs. "course materials"?
Course materials is a broader category that includes digital materials, access codes, and supplies like carpentry tools. It's everything you need for a class.
Do I have to purchase my books at the campus bookstore?
Of course not. Some students decide to purchase their books online or other bookstores. Most students utilize their student account in the bookstore so they don't have to pay for their books and supplies out of pocket elsewhere.
What is the difference between "required", "optional" or "pick one" on the book list?
-
Required: It’s necessary for the course.
-
Optional: The instructor has suggested an item that may be helpful.
-
Pick One: Sometimes instructors provide a list of items that students can choose from to customize their experience. It’s your choice which one to pick.
What is an "ISBN"?
ISBN stands for "International Standard Book Number." This unique identifier of each book edition is printed on the copyright page as well as back cover near the bar code. Checking the ISBN guarantees you’ve got the right book.
What does "book edition" mean?
Your instructor will specify which edition they teach from. Using an older edition can put you at a disadvantage when assignments are made using page numbers or the material has been updated.
What is the difference between "new" and "used" copies of a textbook?
Used copies are the same edition as the new, but previously purchased by another student and may have some notes or highlighting as well as normal wear and tear.
What are "access codes"?
Some of the online courses will provide a 2 week trial period for students. Once that trial period is over, students will need to purchase access codes to remain in the online course. These are available in the Bookstore and can be purchased with the textbooks at the beginning of the semester.
Can you purchase a textbook if you're not a student?
Yes! As long as we have enough available to our students, we are more than happy to have our textbooks available for our visitors as well.
Can you return your textbooks purchased in the bookstore?
Students can return their books purchased during the current semester for full price within the first 2 weeks of the class start date. After that time, you will have an opportunity to sell your textbooks at the end of each semester during our Book Buy Back. Get the details here.
